The imitation of not only the structure but also the function of the active site of the metalloenzyme phospholipase C seems to have been achieved with complex 1 (O w = OH 2 ). The two Zn atoms in 1 are bridged by a phenoxy and a carboxylate group. In addition, one Zn atom binds an H 2 O molecule, which is important for the catalytic process.
