N ‐acrylolated thioglycosides of sialic acid , for example 1 , can be treated with acrylamide to give glycopolymers. These new thioglycosides hinder the adhesion of influenza C virus to the host cell, but are resistant to viral esterases, which makes them interesting in the design of medication against influenza C infections.
