The sulfur and nitrogen atoms of the pyridinethiolato ligands coordinate to the central atom in the vanadium( II ) complex [V(SNC 5 H 4 )0 3 ] − (1) to form a distorted octahedral geometry. In each set of neighboring ligands one S atom and one N atom are trans to each other; the chelate rings are planar. Such complexes with bifunctional ligands are important as models for vanadium centers in biomolecules.
