Hydrogen bonds can create order , even a type of order that may be used in the development of new materials. This was possible with the terpyridine 1 , which is conformationally hindered by its two trimethylene bridges. In the solid state it has an α‐helical structure in which the CO 2 Et groups project outwards at regular intervals.
