A triangle comprising one cobalt and two tungsten atoms is the central unit of the title compound 1, which is accessible from [CpCo(C 2 H 4 ) 2 ] and [W   2   −(OCH 2 t Bu) 6 (py)] (py = pyridine). The structure of 1 shows a striking resemblance to the structure of the CO complex 2 , which can be traced to the isolobal analogy between CO and CpCo. Compounds of the type [W 2 (OR) 6 ] should also be suitable for the synthesis of further heterometallic clusters.
