Of both theoretical and preparative interest are hyper‐ and perlithiated hydrocarbons. Recently the research group of H. Kudo in Japan succeeded in detecting CLi 6 in the mass spectrometer. Thus ab initio calculations from 1983 that predicted a considerable stability for this molecule containing hexavalent carbon were corroborated. CLi 4 is accessible on a preparative scale, but its synthesis is by no means trivial. It is much easier to exchange all hydrogen atoms for lithium atoms in certain alkynes and to use the products as versatile perlithiated building blocks.
