α‐Hydroxyaldehyde Derivatives Arising from Oxidation of Plasmalogens

Lipids from mammalian tissue were shown to be a source of the mixed acetals 1 after reductive workup and silylation. These masked α‐hydroxyaldehydes may arise from the oxidation of plasmalogens and subsequent solvolysis of the methanol extract, as was shown in studies on plasmalogen model compounds.
