Enterobactin, the most important siderophore , is the most powerful known chelater of Fe III , yet the exact structure of this complex is still not known. The structure of the vanadium( IV ) analogue (depicted right), a Δ‐configured trischelate complex, now allows well‐founded, detailed conclusions to be drawn concerning the stereospecific formation of the iron complex and its extreme stability.
