Phosphane complexes of NiCl 2 react with Se(SiMe 3 ) 2 affording mixtures of cluster complexes whose structures are dependent on the phosphane ligands. Through the variation of the ligands, complexes 1–6 were isolated and structurally characterized (Phe = C 2 H 4 Ph). Cluster 2 incorporates a spirocyclic Ni 5 framework, 6 a central Ni 13 cuboctahedron.
