The coordinatively flexible and redox‐active complex fragment [Mo(NO)(′S4′)] in 1 makes the stepwise, and in principle catalytic, reduction of NO to NH 2 OH possible. The two single steps can be clearly distinguished as 2e/2H + and 1e/1H + reductions. This reaction may be considered a model for the molecular processes in the reduction of NO to NH 2 OH within the conversion of NO   3 −to NH 3 in the nitrogen cycle in nature.
