A fourfold capped octahedral metal framework known previously only in carbido and hydrido clusters constitutes the structure of the monoanion [Ru 10 N(CO) 24 ] − (picture right). This cluster may be prepared in several ways; if forms without impurities that are difficult to remove on reaction of the octahedral cluster [Ru 6 N(CO) 16 ] − with [Ru 3 (CO) 12 ].
