Polymers consisting of pure CC chains and nitrile substituents promise to be competitive elastomers. This type of polymer can now be prepared by two routes : firstly by direct excimer laser‐induced free‐radical copolymerization of ethene and acrylonitrile and secondly by a polymer modification reaction of ethene‐acrylate copolymer in dense fluid ammonia [Eq. (a)].
