A Gap 4 tricycle of type [1.1.1.0] is found in the structure of Ga 2 P 4 t Bu 6 , which forms at room temperature already from elemental phosphorus (P 4 ) and the Lewis acid Ga t Bu 3 . This reaction, in which one side of the P 4 tetrahedron is opened, provides a surprisingly simple access to potential precursors for semiconductor materials of the III/IV type.
