Alternating short and long MoMo distances characterize 1 , which can thus be formulated as a dimer of Mo Mo systems. The degree of electronic communication between the Mo 2 units depends on the bridging ligand. The separation of the two electrochemical oxidation steps in 1 (naphthpyridine ligand) of 373 mV is reduced to ca. 100 mV in the anthracenedicarboxylato complex.
