The electrochemical oxidation of the alkali‐metal ions Cs ⊕ , Rb ⊕ , K ⊕ , and Na ⊕ appears to occur in liquid sulfur dioxide, but only at about + 4.7 V vs. SCE, as shown by studies on their AsF 6 ⊖and PF 6 ⊖salts for which other sources of the observed oxidation waves could be excluded. No evidence for the oxidation, previously reported by Seppelt et al., of Cs ⊕ in acetonitrile at less positive potentials could be found. It is astounding that all four alkali‐metal ions studied are oxidized at the same potential.
