Simple thermal ligand exchange allows the carbonyl( pentaphosphacyclopentadienyl) complexes 1 (n = 1, M = Cr, Mo, W; n = 0, M = Mn) to be prepared. These reactions demonstrate the stability of the free P   5 ⊖ion.
