Boranediyls, alanediyls, and gallanediyls, :EX, are enfants terribles because of their unorthodox reactivity and structural diversity. For this very reason, however, their chemistry is more promising than that of the analogous species :E'X 2 of the fourth main group. H. Schnöckel et al. have made an important contribution to the chemistry of these monovalent substances by synthesizing and structurally characterizing the cluster [{Al(C 6 Me 5 )} 4 ] (see page 564).
