Cyclodextrin derivatives such as 1, which contain glucopyranose units in 1 C 4 conformation , were synthesized from per(6‐ O ‐tosyl)‐β‐cyclodextrin. The pure α‐cyclodextrin derivative (with six sugar units) was obtained from per(2,3‐ O ‐benzoyl‐6‐ O ‐tosyl)‐α‐cyclodextrin. Both anhydrodextrins are potential molecular receptors in which the cavity is lined with hydroxyl groups.
