With short Au…Au contacts of 2.9 Å, the “dimeric” structure of the polymeric [AuSe 5 ] ⊖ anion 1 in KAuSe 5 provides a further example of d 10 –d 10 interactions in the solid state. KAuSe 5 is formed as reddish‐brown, needlelike crystals from a polychalcogenide melt (K 2 Se: Au:Se = 2:1 :8); if the amount of K 2 Se is reduced to 1.8, K 3 AuSe 13 is formed.
