The formation of the unexpected, exotic product 2 in the reaction of the sterically shielded Hückel‐aromatic three‐membered ring compound 1 can plausibly be. explained by way of analogy. With CO from Fe(CO) 5 , a completely different, likewise unexpected product is obtained, whose formation involves cleavage of the CO triple bond, and even at −30°C! Both results throw valuable light the reactivity of CO.
