A CrCr distance of only 2.394(1) Å was found in the binuclear complex 2 , obtainable by decomposition of 1 . Extended Hückel calculations gave five energetically similar frontier orbitals for six electrons. The high magnetic moment (μ eff = 3.3μ B ) indicates the presence of a CrCr single bond.
