A ring containing six Ru atoms, six O atoms, and 12 C atoms occurs in the structure of compound 1 , which is characterized by dinuclear metallic units joined through tartrato ligands. 1 is remarkably easy to prepare from Ru 3 (CO) 12 and ( R,R )‐, ( S,S )‐ or ( R,S )‐tartaric acid, with configuration being maintained in the course of the reaction. Observed yields are of the order of 80% The compounds 1 are to be regarded as organometallic macrocycles with chiral structural units.
