Te 8 [WCl 6 ] 2 is formed upon oxidation of tellurium with WCl 6 . In the crystal the bicyclic Te   8 2⊕cation is associated to give chains (see 1 ) and can be regarded as a tellurium polycation [Te n ] n/4⊕ Such polycations were already postulated almost 20 years ago by R. J. Gillespie , but up to now they have never been structurally characterized.
