Reversal of a carbine–isocyanide coupling al‐lowed synthesis of the electron‐rich carbyne complex 1 . The key step in this new synthesis is the base‐induced cleavage of the t Bu(H)NC;CPh ligand of a W II complex to give a carbyne ligand and an isocyanide ligand. This method appears to be applicable to complexes having iscelectronic metal centers.
