Partial structures of N ‐glycoproteins that are of decisive importance for biological recognition processes on the cellular and molecular level can be prepared by a combination of chemical and enzymatic steps. The aspartyl‐glucosaminyl unit is first synthesized chemically; the subsequent galactosylation to 1 is achieved enzymatically in the presence of galactosyltransferase.
