Nucleophilic addition of carbonyl metallates to coordinated, unsaturated hydrocarbons in cationic complexes can be used for the directed synthesis of various hydrocarbon‐bridged complexes. Application of this established principle to [Os(CO) 4 ] 2⊖ has now permitted the synthesis of OsRe 2 , OSMn 2 , and OsMo 2 complexes such as 1 and 2 . Trinuclear complexes of this type are of interest as precursors to heterogeneous bimetallic catalysts.
