The cleavage of binuclear titanocene polysulfide complexes [reaction (a)] is useful in the synthesis of the title compound 1 . Reaction probably occurs in an analogous fashion with many elemental dihalides (ECl 2 or R x EC1 2 ) and should therefore open the way to a wide variety of new titanocene complexes. Compound 1 contains a bimetallic heterocycle that functions as a transfer reagent for S 4 AsCH 3 .
