“Free” (CH 3 ) 3 Sn ⊕ ions can be exchanged with surprising ease in polymeric metal cyanides, as demonstrated by reactions (a) and (b). Host–guest complexes, in which an inorganic solid acts as host and an organometallic or organic cation is the guest, are of considerable interest with respect to the development of materials with nonlinear optical properties.
