Are colloids large clusters? Both can be stabilized by simple low‐molecularweight ligands, as was demonstrated by complexation of gold colloids with the water‐soluble phosphane Ph 2 PC 6 H 4 SO 3 Na. This approach allows not only the study of gold colloids in aqueous solution at any desired concentration, but also the investigation of noncoagulated colloids. These findings open up totally new perspectives in colloid chemistry.
