A polymer with the uniquely folded Hg 2 Cl 2 double chain 1 , the title compound, is formed in 74 % yield already at room temperature upon reaction of HgCl 2 and K(C 5 Me 5 ). The η 1 ‐bound C 5 Me 5 rings surround the inorganic skeleton of the polymer as organic protective sheath. Compounds of the type RHgX usually form linear‐molecules, which assemble in the form of “normal” lattices.
