The crystal structure of the cation 1 resembles a Maltese cross. It has planar C 2 B 2 P rings, it is the first compound with BP bonds between λ 5 ,σ 4 ‐P and λ 3 ,σ 3 ‐B atoms, and its compounds with X Cl, BPh 4 are ionic both in the solid and in solution. Cation 1 is formed from RClBCHCHBC1R and P(SiMe 3 ) 3 . R N i Pr 2 .
