1 and 2 were identified by NMR spectroscopy at low temperature as intermediates in the formation of amorphous MgPdC x H y 3 from Mg(C 2 H 5 ) 2 and [Pd(η 3 ‐C 3 H 5 ) 2 ]. The experimentally determined product ratio 3 : ethene:propene:ethane = 1:2:1:1 can be explained on the basis of the formation of a further intermediate from 2 and Mg(C 2 H 5 ) 2 . 3 is of interest as an organometallic precursor for the deposition of intermetallic compounds from the gas phase.
