Dissolution of copper powder in methanol occurs in the presence of the bis(ligand)copper( II ) complex 1 when CO is admitted to the solution. The surprisingly stable Cu 1 complex 2 is formed in a comproportionation reaction. Complex 2 loses CO even upon drying under high vacuum.\documentclass{article}\usepackage{amssymb}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$[\{({\rm C}_6{\rm Me}_6){\rm RuCl}[{\rm P(O)(OMe)}_{2}]_{2}\}_{2}{\rm Cu}]\;{\bf 1}$$\end{document}
