The carbon oxide 2, the longest so far, is stable in solution at room temperature. It is formed upon pyrolysis or photolysis of 1 . Its IR spectrum is in agreement with a linear or quasi‐linear structure. Compound 2 reacts, for example, with MeOH to give exclusively dimethyl allenedicarboxylate.
