Synthesis, Structure and Bonding of [Cl 2 Sn{Rh(PMe 3 ) 3 Cl} 2 ] · THF, an Unusual Sn II ‐Rh I Adduct

Crystals of the title complex 1 appear red in transmitted light and green in reflected light. 1 was obtained in 89% yield upon reaction of [Rh(PMe 3 ) 3 Cl] with 0.5 equivalents of SnCl 2 in THF. The structure of this electron‐rich complex is characterized by an angular RhSnRh unit (142.52)3(°). An analogous Ir 2 Sn‐complex has also been synthesized.
