The very unusual coordination number 1 of the metal , which results in a high reactivity toward small molecules like NO and CO, could be realized in the title compounds Ph 3 C 6 H 2 M (MCu: 1a ; MAg: 1b ) for the first time, thanks to the sterically very demanding aryl ligand “1,3,5‐triphenylphenyl”. The C1–metal distances are extremely short ( 1a : 1.890(6) Å; 1b : 1.902(3) Å).
