Pyrolysis of the cyclopropenone 1 at 300–400°C yields CO and the IR spectroscopically and chemically characterized title compound 2 , which can be trapped in an argon matrix at 12 K. Irradiation of 2 in the presence of CO affords 1 again. The cyclohexyne derivative 2 dimerizes at 45 K to 3 . At very high temperatures, the cyclohexyne 2 formed from 1 decomposes with cycloreversion to ethylene and tetramethylbutatriene.
