The analogy between a 1,2‐bis(carbenoid) species and a species containing a triple bond, |CNO↔CN→O| , was the basis for the method shown below for the synthesis of nitrile oxides. Noteworthy is the direct introduction of the NO group. Compound 1 is also the first nitrile oxide containing a P‐bound CNO group (R = i Pr 2 N).
