A “pure” carbonylmetalate–containing only metal and CO – has now been obtained for zirconium as the salt 1 . The synthesis of 1 could only be achieved in the presence of a complexant for alkali metals, e.g., a crown ether such as [15]crown‐5 (15‐C‐5). The 91 Zr‐NMR spectrum of[Zr( 13 CO) 6 ] 2‐ (99% 13 C) reveals that the anion exhibits octahedral geometry.
