Our understanding of adsorption processes has been improved by the finding that the adsorption process in zeolites can be described using the concept of intrinsic curvature. This was demonstrated with hydrocarbons and two zeolites. For both zeolites, a linear relation was obtained between integrated heats of adsorption and N · K av ( N = number of valence electrons of the adsorbed molecule; K av = mean Gaussian curvature of the inner surfaces).
