The title compound, a Ge I ‐Ge I ‐Ge II ‐Ge I ‐Ge I polygermane is completely dissociated in solution at room temperature; in the solid state there is an almost linear GeCl 2 moiety surrounded equatorially by two‐ligands 1 .
