Of interest for Ziegler–Natta systems with donor ligands are the structures of the cations of 1 and 2 . The cation [AlMe 2 ] ⊕ is encapsulated by crown ethers and in 1 is bound to three of the six oxygen atoms while in 2 it is bound to all five oxygen atoms; the MeAlMe angle in 1 is 141 ° , in 2 178 ° . ( 1 contains [18]crown‐6, 2 contains [15]crown‐5.)
