The thermodynamically favorable isomerization of pagodane 1 to dodecahedrane 2 can be accomplished with the aid of metal catalysts. The competing processes thus far responsible for the limited yields of 2 (maximum 8%) are so restricted in the cyclopropabissecododecahedraenes 3/4 that selective conversions into the corresponding methyldodecahedranes are achieved.
