The first fourfold coordinated “naked” oxygen atom is, aside from the low oxidation state of the four metal atoms, the special feature of the cluster ion 1 of the title compound. Surprisingly, the μ 4 ‐O atom of 1 is protonated only with difficulty by Brønsted acids.
