The cover picture shows a europium ( III ) cryptate which has extremely interesting photochemical and photophysical properties. The complex absorbs ultraviolet light by the macrocyclic ligand; an excitation of Eu 3⊕ by energy transfer from excited states of the ligand thenenables the luminous red Eu 3⊕ emission.
