The first silver complex containing an [M 4 S 6 ] structural unit , the anion 1 , has now been synthesized; numerous examples of Cu 1 complexes containing this structural unit are already known. The [Ag 4 S 6 ] cage consists—in idealized terms—of an S 6 octahedron with an Ag 4 tetrahedron, which is so oriented that the octahedral faces are alternately occupied by Ag atoms. In the picture on the right, the Ag atoms are drawn in black.
