The structural effect of methyl substituents in the pyrazole (pz) ligand of [(C 5 Me 5 )Ir(pz) 3 H] complexes is considerable. Whereas all three rings in 1 are equivalent and participate in intramolecular protropism, this is true for only two rings in 2 . This is revealed, for example, in the larger basicity of the third pyrazole ring in 2 .
