The synthesis, charge distribution, and reactions of 1 (RC(CH 3 ) 3 , R′Si(CH 3 ) 3 ), the simplest organometallic cyclobutadiene so far, are described. The results of NMR spectroscopy underline the importance of the resonance structures 1 for the description of the electron distribution.
