A square pyramid consisting of four Mo atoms and one F atom is formed by the unusual arrangement of atoms in the polyanion [Mo 4 O 12 F 3 ]3 ⊖ , in which each Mo atom is surrounded in a distorted octahedral fashion by four O and two F atoms. Two octahedra form a face‐sharing double octahedron. These in turn are joined through two edges to form tetrameric anions.
