The symmetrical di‐ and trications 1 and 2, respectively, containing tropylium moieties . were prepared from dicycloheptatrienyl‐heptafulvalene. Reaction with Ph 3 C ⊕ BF 4 ⊖ affords, via the (nonisolable) monocation, the dication 1 , whose BF 4 ⊖ salt forms blue needles. 1 undergoes protonation by strong acids to give 2 .
